Being active online is a great thing. It helps you to build your audience, gain new customers, and spread your message. When I talk about being active online, most people automatically think of social media. While being on social media is a good thing, it is is not enough. You must have another way to communicate with your audience, that belongs to you. It needs to be something that you can control and continue to use, even if the social media platforms go down or the platform owners decide that they will change the way things are done. One thing I recommend is that you begin connecting with your audience through an email.

Building an Email List
Connecting with your audience through email requires you to build an email list. While you can reach out to a few people through your contacts and your normal email, you cannot connect with your audience, gather new contacts, or share your message effectively, without building an actual list, using an email autoresponder. Once you acquire one, you need to make sure that you are building an email list consistently. Whenever you post on social media, there should be a call to action. You should either ask you audience to visit a specific link, or invite them to sign up for you email list. You can also give them the option to join your list through your website. You can invite your audience to join and reward them for doing so.
This reward can be a pdf, checklist, or ebook, with valuable information that they can use and apply to their lives and/or business. There are many ways to go about creating this tool that you are going to offer them, which I will share in another post and I go over extensively in my academy, but if you aren’t sure about that, you can do something that many people enjoy. You can create an email series that your audience will find beneficial.
Really, the opportunity to connect with your audience through email is such a great thing. You don’t have anyone telling you what you can or cannot share with your audience. No one can control how often you connect with them and you begin to build an exclusive community that is only accessible to those people that decide to connect with you on a deeper level.
Think about it, you put out information to your audience on a regular basis and while you might think you have their attention, they are often distracted by all of the other things happening on Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest. Connecting with your audience through email allows you to have their undivided attention, as much is possible without actually verbally talking with them or being in their presence.
You must have an email autoresponder
Having an email list is important, but you must have an email autoresponder if you are going to effectively connect and market to your audience. There are a lot of options out there, but over the past decade, I have gathered some of my favorites. I have a specific reason why I like these, and since I have tried almost every option out there, I have my go-to options.

Here are a few of my current email autorepsonder favorites. You’ll have to do your own research based on your needs and determine how they will benefit you and your business, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you. They are not listed in any particular order.
1. Mailchimp
2. Aweber
3. Kajabi’s Email
4. Infusionsoft
