There is a lot happening in the world today. We are hearing and seeing the effects of the coronavirus around every corner and if we aren’t careful, we could easily see the effects at our own door. While this frightens many people, and for good reason, I want you to consider that there is always a blessing to come out of every scary and weirdly strange situation that you and I will ever face. The thing is that you just have to be willing to continue moving forward regardless of the setbacks.
Maybe you were on the verge of something big in your life and/or business before all of this started. Maybe you felt like this was your big break or that you had finally gotten the hang of things. You could have been in the flow, moving right along, when BAAM, you were hit with the news of the virus spreading like wildfire and the government saying that you had to drastically change your life, NOW. If you find yourself in this space, let me first tell you that you are not alone in this situation, although you might feel like you are. You and millions of other people around the world are facing the same thing, but there is one thing that can set you apart from the others. That one thing will be your ability to see the benefits and not just the consequences in this situation.
Sure, they might have closed schools. They might have told you and others that you cannot leave your house for recreational shopping or entertainment, and to keep your distance from others socially, but what does that have to do with the things that you have wanted to do for a long time? This is your opportunity to get innovative. Figure out how to take what is happening and use it to your advantage.
Ask yourself this question. What are the things that you have been wanting to do for the longest time, but were too busy to actually accomplish? Maybe you’ve been too focused on the outside world and need to take stock of how you are doing as a person. This is the perfect time to do that. Maybe your children need more of you and you’ve been meaning to spend more time with them, this is the best time for family bonding.
Perhaps your big concern is that you wanted to be doing great things in your business, but now you feel like you can’t because of all of the limitations. Well, here’s the thing. You can look at your glass as half empty or you can see it as half full. If you see it as half empty, then go get a jug of water and start to fill it up, so that you can change your perspective. Yes, I realize that your perspective isn’t alwayss easy to change, that’s why I encourage you to do something that will help you change your perspective. If you just can’t see it, then do something about it.
Change your focus for your business. Perhaps the social distancing puts a damper on things for you. Honestly, that shouldn’t stop anything. Many people are referencing the 1918-1919 influenza that was the largest epidemic in history, for this country, but that is not today. The technologies that we are privi to are not the same. You don’t have the same limitations, so you can’t use the same excuses. You have to decide that you are going to move forward regardless of your setbacks.
So here are a few things that I recommend you do in the midst of this pandemic.
- Determine your goals
- Focus your energy on making a plan of execution
- Come up with creative ways of walking out what you have planned
- Stop giving yourself excuses
- Take control of your situation
- Hold yourself accountable
- Get the things done
- Keep moving forward
- Re-evaluate if necessary
- Celebrate your wins and recalibrate when necessary
I’m not trying to be harsh, I just want you to remove your excuses and take full advantage of the opportunity that you have been given to make something out of what you have. It might not feel like a lot, but if you are able to read this post, you are privileged enough to put one foot in front of the other, utilize your technology, and continue moving forward regardless of the setbacks that you might be facing.
